Pulled out of the Spree at the Osthafen gate
At about 1 a.m. on 18 August 1961 a man jumped into the Spree at the gate of the Osthafen to swim to West Berlin; the works guards pulled him out.
The Friedrichshain police reported at 2 a.m. on 18 August 1961 that at about 1 a.m. a man, not yet identified, had tried to reach West Berlin by swimming through the Spree.
He jumped into the river at the level of the Osthafen gate ('Behala') and was pulled out again by the works security, then taken to the Friedrichshain police inspectorate.
