Jan-Michael G.'s truck is caught in a cable barrier

On 8 April 1989 a heavy truck broke through both service gates at Ruppiner Straße but was stopped by a cable barrier designed to catch lorries.

At Ruppiner Straße there were gates for the border troops through the inner wall and the signal fence. Jan-Michael G. chose this spot for his escape.

On the evening of 8 April 1989 he drove a heavy truck through both gates.

Behind them, however, the truck became caught in a cable barrier built specifically to stop trucks, according to the Berlin Wall Memorial; residents quoted by the taz said it came to a stop on a concrete barrier. Jan-Michael G. was arrested and handed over to the Ministry for State Security.
