Jan-Michael G.'s truck is caught in a cable barrier
Seven months before the Wall fell, a heavy truck smashed through both service gates at Ruppiner Straße but was stopped by a cable barrier designed to catch lorries.
At Ruppiner Straße there were gates for the border troops through the inner wall and the signal fence. Jan-Michael G. chose this spot for his escape.
On the evening of 8 April 1989 he drove a heavy truck through both gates.
Behind them, however, the truck became caught in a cable barrier built specifically to stop trucks. Jan-Michael G. was arrested and handed over to the Ministry for State Security.
