23 September 1961 – 30 September 1961 · Window jumps
Horst K. jumps, and a week later his wife follows with their baby
After a row with a party secretary, Horst K. jumped into a fire brigade net from a friend's lower flat; a week later his wife and five-month-old child escaped from the same flat.
On the evening of 22 September 1961 Horst K., who lived at Bernauer Straße 10a, had an argument with a party secretary. He went to an acquaintance's flat at Bernauer Straße 13a, which was not as high up as his own.
At about one o'clock the next morning he called the West Berlin fire brigade and jumped into their jumping sheet.
On 30 September 1961 his wife and their five-month-old child also got out. Mrs K. had meanwhile been moved out of her flat, but her identity card still showed the old address, so the guards let her into the border area. She went to the same acquaintance and jumped from the window into the West with the child.
