Two men leave through the allotments at the Dammweg
At 6.10 p.m. on 16 August 1961 the guards at control point 64 on the Dammweg watched two men go to West Berlin, probably through the allotment gardens.
In a report of 6.40 p.m. on 16 August 1961 the Treptow police noted that at 6.10 p.m. two men had gone to West Berlin at the Dammweg, at control point 64, 'probably through the allotment area'. The posts saw it happen.
In a later report, at 8.15 p.m., the Treptow police recorded that a warning shot had been fired at KP 64 when two people tried to break through; both were detained. The time of that attempt is not given.

Turned back at the Dammweg after going home for his papers, and filmed by the Abendschau behind the wire, a 22-year-old radio mechanic found a gap in the mesh fence between the Kiefholzstraße allotments the same day.
