Shots stop an escape at Brunnenstraße

At about 3.20 a.m. on 23 July 1971 border guards fired on a man trying to escape at Brunnenstraße and arrested him.

At about 3.20 a.m. on 23 July 1971 a man tried to escape across the border at Brunnenstraße, by Bernauer Straße.

The border guards stopped him by shooting at him. He was arrested.

The Berlin Wall Memorial records the event with marker C 406; it does not name the man.

    A young man got almost to the foot of the Wall before the Strelitzer Straße watchtower spotted him; two aimed shots stopped him, one hitting his right leg.
