Removal worker jumps onto a waiting truck
A removal worker clearing flats under police guard slipped into a front room, signalled West Berlin police to bring a truck under the window and jumped onto it.
On 17 October 1961 Rudolf K. was working as a removal man during the forced evictions at Bernauer Straße 8. Volkspolizei officers were guarding the workers to stop anyone escaping.
Rudolf K. slipped unnoticed into a room facing Bernauer Straße and called over West Berlin police officers, who directed a truck under the window. He jumped from the first floor onto the truck, which drove off at once.
By the time the Volkspolizei broke the door open, he was already safe in West Berlin.
