A young man dashes from a bakery while a photographer distracts the guards
While sentries were checking the papers of an East Berlin magazine photographer, a young man stepped out of a bakery by the Wall and climbed over.
On the morning of 8 September 1961 a photographer from an East Berlin illustrated magazine was taking pictures of the Wall at Swinemünder Straße.
The border guards were just checking his papers when a young man came out of a baker's shop right next to the Wall.
He seized the moment, ran to the Wall and climbed over it without difficulty. The guards noticed him too late to stop him.
