Three youths swim the Landwehrkanal in their clothes
At 1.30 p.m. on 13 August 1961 three youths swam fully clothed across the Landwehrkanal from Lohmühlenstraße to West Berlin.
In a report at 2.30 p.m. on 13 August 1961 the Treptow police recorded that at 1.30 p.m. three youths had swum through the Landwehrkanal in their clothes, from Lohmühlenstraße to West Berlin.
The staff of the police inspectorate then posted patrols there.

On 13 August 1961 about eighteen people left East Berlin across the Teltow Canal between the Massante and Wrede bridges. The police saw young people swimming across, some using air mattresses, while about 400 West Berliners gathered on the far bank.
