One of three gets through at Karpfenteichstraße
In the early hours of 25 July 1962 three people tried to escape near Karpfenteichstraße in Treptow. Border guards fired about 15 shots. One man reached West Berlin, and the other two were arrested, one of them wounded.
At about 2.50 on 25 July 1962 three people tried to escape from Treptow near Karpfenteichstraße. Border guards spotted them and opened fire.
One man got across. Early that morning he reported to the West Berlin police and told them what had happened. According to him the guards fired about 15 shots.
The border guards arrested the other two. One of them had been wounded.

On a warm Sunday a 24-year-old bricklayer climbed from the Charité hospital grounds into the border strip; a guard on the tower of the Supreme Court shot him in the head and he lay in the bushes for about 40 minutes.
