The rope snaps at Ackerstraße 43
A man lowering himself from a second-floor staircase window fell when his rope broke; passers-by carried him across the street.
At about 9 p.m. on 15 October 1961 Richard S., a voluntary helper of the People's Police who lived next door, saw an escape from Ackerstraße 43 and reported it to the border guards.
A man was trying to let himself down on a rope from the second-floor staircase window facing Bernauer Straße. The rope broke and he fell onto the pavement.
Passers-by carried him to the opposite side of the street, and shortly afterwards the West Berlin fire brigade took him away.
