A bucket, the S-Bahn tracks and the bridge over the Gartenstraße
An unknown person stood a bucket against the rear wall in a Mitte back yard, climbed onto the tracks of the North-South S-Bahn and walked across the railway bridge into Wedding.
In the night of 18 to 19 January 1982, probably at about one o'clock, someone put a bucket against the rear border wall in the back yard of Wöhlertstraße 10 in Mitte and climbed over.
The person reached the tracks of the North-South S-Bahn and walked along them across the railway bridge over the Gartenstraße into West Berlin.
The escape is known from Stasi files summarised by the Berliner Zeitung in 2004 in an overview of escapes along the railway lines between East and West Berlin; the escapee's identity is not recorded there.
