Through a cut grille between the S-Bahn platforms
A young West Berliner who had fled himself the year before cut a grille beneath the glass wall between the S-Bahn platforms at Friedrichstraße so that his girlfriend could slip through.
At Bahnhof Friedrichstraße the S-Bahn platforms for trains to the East and to the West were separated only by a glass screen.
In January 1965 a 20-year-old West Berliner, who had himself fled from East Berlin in 1964, cut through a grille below that screen. His girlfriend from Fredersdorf slipped through to the westbound side and the two rode to West Berlin.
Bild reported the escape on 13 January 1965; the Stasi checked the station the same day and found two bars of the grille cut through.
